I recently visited the beautiful city of Inverness during my vacation in Scotland. I can’t tell you how excited I was to spend time there! Our first day there was blustery and rainy, not too surprising for Scotland. I won’t lie, I burrowed under the covers and skipped my morning run that day. Thankfully the second day dawned clear and beautiful. It was what running dreams in Scotland are made of! So, I happily headed out the door for an early morning running by the river Ness.
The river Ness runs right through the city of Inverness. There is a River walk that winds along the river that I was dying to explore. We headed out on our run along the river. The sun was just coming up and the sky looked magical. It was too beautiful for words.

We ran along the river, following the path, and it seemed that within moments the city disappeared into the countryside. We were surrounded by the forest and the music of the flowing river. It was absolutely beautiful. And that sky! It took my breath away.

Every so often we would come across a bridge that crossed the river. The path continued along the opposite side of the river as well. It felt so secluded, and really had the illusion of being out in the wilderness. We might have been miles from the city, but in reality were only minutes away from downtown.

This was such a perfect morning in Inverness! If you are visiting the city take some time for a run along the river, or a quiet stroll. There are so many great things to appreciate in Inverness; shopping, music, great food, and culture; but take some time to enjoy nature as well! I’m so glad I didn’t miss this morning running along the river Ness!
